Is there a tax deduction for rent paid on secondary residence?

I own a home, which is my primary residence.  My employer transferred my job to an office in excess of 50 miles from my home.  Rather than commute back and forth daily to my new job location, I rented an apartment for 7 months in 2016 close to the new job location.  During the work week, I lived in the apartment.  On the weekends, I lived in the house.  I paid both my home mortgage and the rent on the apartment for those 7 months.  Is there a tax deduction for the duplicate housing expense?  My employer did not compensate me for the expense.

No, the this rent wouldn't be deductible as a travel expense, unless this job was only a temporary job, not expected to last more than 1 year. Otherwise, it's considered a personal expense.
