For federal income tax purposes, there are no deductions or credits available for renting your home. Rent is considered a personal expense.

If you live in a state that has an income tax, you should be aware that many states do offer some type of renter's credit or deduction. If such a credit or deduction applies to you, the Easy Step interview will ask questions about your rent paid when you are in the State Taxes section of TurboTax.
