If you erroneously started a Schedule E in TurboTax, you can delete that form.   If you do own property that you rent out to others, don't delete the Schedule E, but if you don't have rental property, you can remove it.

Sign in to TurboTax and open your return by selecting Continue or Pick up where you left off.

  • In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  • In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  • Select Delete next to the Schedule E and follow the instructions.

In TurboTax desktop, go to Forms, find the Schedule E in the list and click on Delete Form.

What do you mean by "take rent off"? What kind of rent do you want to take off?

DawnC thinks you mean that you entered rental income on your tax return, and you want to remove it. Is that what you mean? If so, follow the instructions that DawnC gave you. But the tag below your question indicates that you are using TurboTax Free Edition. You could not have entered rental income in Free Edition.

Do you mean that you want to get a tax deduction for rent that you paid? If so, what was the rent for? There is no deduction on the federal tax return for rent that you pay for a personal home or apartment. If you are talking about rent that you paid for an office or other facility that you used for a business that you own, you can deduct the rent as a business expense. But you cannot deduct business expenses in Free Edition.
