i seem to be missing a bunch of information from the 1099 forms i uploaded and im not sure how i can sort through the many many pages and correct all of the missing boxes. isnt this supposedly automatic?
whatever you see, that's how TurboTax imports what TD Ameritrade puts out.
there is no magic option to set it right.
your best course is to use the "summary" option and enter sales subtotals by category.
You may be making the "mail-in election " depending on the categories and transactions reported.
Your brokerage statements should include a summary of your transactions, grouped by sales category, for example "Box A short-term covered" or "Box D long-term covered". You'll enter the summary info instead of each individual transaction.
When you are done entering all your sales transactions, you'll eventually come to the Here's the investment sales info we have so far screen. Here you can edit, delete, or enter more sales.
