How do I enter a Cash in Lieu sale 1099-B in premier Online? FAQ for How did you receive this investment? answer Fractional Sale is not on the dropdown?

You would select Stock (non-employee) since a fractional sale is the sale of a fraction of the stock.

Hi HelenC12, I have answered Srock (non-employee). It is the following question: How did you receive this stock? that does not give me the option Fractional Sale as listed in the FAQ for that question.

Yes, you are correct that "fractional share" is not a purchase method. First, if you report this as a sale listed on a 1099-B, this question doesn't appear. You must have selected "Other" for your form type.

 

You can select the purchase method for the stock that caused you to get the fractional share. 

 

For example,  you purchased stock A and then it was acquired by company B. You received shares in company B and a fractional share was sold. In that case you would say "I purchased it" because you purchased stock A.

Update. I spoke with the help person (more than once about this). This time the advise was to call it a short sale. This got through.
