It is not possible to attach the rent certificate to your electronically filed return.  You have to print and mail in your return with your rent certificate.

What should we do if we it was already filed through turbotax?

It was asking to upload the rent certificate, but I realized that it wasn't attached to the overall form that was sent.

Would sending W-RA form along with rent certificate help? (For Wisconsin state)

Please see Wisconsin Form W-RA, Required Attachments for Electronic Filing on the Wisconsin Department of Revenue's E-Filing of Individual Income Tax Returns with Homestead Credit Claims page for guidance.

If you have turbo tax deluxe you can absolutely attach it. Follow the homestead credit questions, when you get to the one that says I have attached a note... from my landlord check it. Shortly thereafter it will ask you for anything you need to attach. Check that and it will take you where you can attach it.

Yes - You can attach a PDF copy of your rent certificate to your 2020 WI return in both TurboTax Online and CD/Download versions.  Please follow these steps:

  1. In your WI return, complete the Homestead Credit Questionnaire.
  2. Afterward you will see a screen, Looks like you need to attach a PDF.  Click Continue.  [See Screenshot #1, below.]
  3. If you are using TurboTax Online, click the Edit box.  [Screenshot #2]
  4. On the next screen, browse to the location of the PDF copy of your rent certificate.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen for uploading the document.
  6. The next screen will confirm that the PDF has been attached.  [Screenshot #3]
