How can I identify whether capital gains were from a U.S. Obligation?

My 1099-B shows 3 sales of stock from American (USA) companies. What is a “U.S. Obligation”? What form would show me that I sold stock relative a “U.S. Obligation”?

A US obligation is a bond or note which is a direct obligation of the United States of America, or obligations the principal of and interest on which are guaranteed by the United States of America.

The sale of these investments would be reported on an IRS form 1099-B.
