Does the California Renter's Credit apply if I am renting a room in a house and I am not a member of the homeowner's family?

I lived and payed rent in an apartment for all of 2017 and part of 2018. I was able to claim the Renter's Credit on my 2017 return. Part way through 2018 I moved into a room in a house that I am now paying rent to the homeowners, and I am not a member of their family, so I am unsure if i can still use the Renter's Credit.

Yes, if you are paying rent, it's rent.

Thank you. I was unsure of my situation because the most similar questions asked were all about paying rent to one's own parents.

Yes, paying parents can be viewed as just contributing to the household. You are renting. Thank you for using TurboTax.
