Do I report rental on schedule E or schedule C? We have a short term rental property - guests stay 5 days to 4 weeks. Cleaning services are provided between stays.

If you only provide cleaning services between stays and do not provide other additional services during the guest stay (such as meals or daily maid service), then Schedule E would be the appropriate place to report your rental income and expenses.

Is this also the case if one is doing business as a single-member LLC? I own and operate summer rental cottages and have a similar arrangement: Cleaning only between guests; no maid service, meals or linens provided. My CPAs have always put this income on Schedule C. I asked another CPA about this, and he half-joked that I should start giving towels to my guests just to qualify for Schedule C.
