Do I really need to pay for the upgrade just to file a 1099 - Div for investments?

If you are using TurboTax Online, maybe.   If you are using the desktop software, no.   Get more information on which forms are included in TurboTax Free Edition.

If the Form 1099-DIV is reporting capital gains in box 2a then you would the Premium online edition.
