Do I file whole year's worth of capital gains even if I only lived in NM for 2 1/2 months

When filling out my daughter's New Mexico taxes, it asks for total capital gains.  She was only in the state for 2 1/2 months for a paid internship and then returned to Texas.  Does she claim the full amount that she earned in her investment account for the whole year?

No, you do not need to file report a full year worth of capital gains on her New Mexico tax return.

If she did not intend to establish residency in New Mexico and only lived there for an internship, report $0 capital gains on her NM tax return.

If she did intend to establish residency, you will apportion her capital gains to only the 2.5 months she was a part year resident of the state.
