Cannot see transaction detail in step by step mode after downloading capital gains/losses from broker accounts. Never a problem in prior years. Anyone else?

Clicking on the update button for stock and bond transactions in the income tab just locks up the program. I can see transactions in the forms view, but this is very cumbersome to check.

hi

I am seeing this issue also and system completely locks up. I had over 13 different stock accounts and some of them over 100 transactions/per account and it completely bogs down and does not work. I do see entries in Forms and worksheet and it is painfully slow. I want to add one additional transaction and it does not work.

Were transactions divided into short and long terms for you on the paper?  If import does not go smooth, I will suggest to manually enter info.  This year, there are a limit on how many import transactions TurboTax can handle.  See blue links below.  If there are too many transactions, the process may freeze or crash.  You may want to sum up transactions between long term and short term then manually enter.  Here are the steps:

In TurboTax online,

  • Sign into your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in 1099b and Enter
  • Select Jump to 1099b
  • Follow prompts
  • On-screen, "Let's import your tax info, select I'll type it myself
  • Follow prompts to continue

If you sold your stocks and bonds transactions during the year, the program will generate either a long term or short term capital gain or loss depends on how long the stocks are being held.  The amount will be reported on line 7 of your Form 1040 along with a Schedule D and Form 8949.
