Anybody having TurboTax 'File'tab freeze up after downloading very large 1099B form from Broker? The file tab shows "Non Responding". Program works fine other than that

I can save/exit program by closing window and then I am prompted to 'save' file.  Cannot just hit 'file' tab as it is frozen ('not responding')

Apparently if you wait after clicking on the 'File' Tab (more than 30 sec), the drop down menu of options appear.  Then you must slowly select the option you want (put cursor over option) wait again and then 'right click'.  Although slow, it will then initiate the function you selected.

This started to happen after I loaded my 1099-B brokerage file (over 160 pages) and Turbo_Tax loaded the data, it really bogged down the 'File' tab response.  All of the other program function inside the program work well and are responsive.

I doubled checked that the data was loaded using the 'Forms' option.  The 1099-B transactions for that Brokerage account was there and all the compiled the data. TT calculated the short & long term capital gains and  carried those figures into the summary page as expected.

Not in my case. Although sometimes I get the menu, when I click anything the software just crashes and goes to the beginning screen. I am precluded from saving as… and printing. Every year there is a new screw up with this company

Please follow the instructions here to manually update your software. If you still cannot file after the update, please comment and let us know. @Ragrl

I see this in TurboTax Deluxe 2022 on Windows (version 2022.47.23.49). When I click on the File menu the app becomes non-responsive and takes up 1+ CPU cores for 10-30 seconds. One of three things then happens:

  • Sometimes the menu never appears but the app becomes responsive.
  • Sometimes the menu draws very slowly but selecting items has no effect--the menu just disappears.
  • Sometimes the menu draws very slowly and works normally.

Other menus work fine.

For this filing I downloaded a 1099-B with 250+ entries. On another return without a big 1099-B the menu works correctly at normal speed.
