Retirement tax questions
You 're considered self employed and you would report the income as self-employment income. You'll have to set up a "business". The business will be reported on a Schedule C, Profit or Loss From Business.
- TurboTax will also calculate your self-employment taxes. Those are Social Security and Medicare. In addition to those payroll taxes,
- TurboTax will also calculate federal income tax and state income tax, if you live in a state that has an income tax.
In the TurboTax interview:
- You'll use your name as the business name.
- You'll use your address as the business address.
- You'll use your Social Security Number (SSN) instead of an Employer Identification Number (EIN).

If you received income but no 1099-MISC form was issued, enter your cash self-employment income:
- When in your account, select the Take Me to My Return button on the main screen.
- Type Schedule C in the Search box
- Select the Jump to link.
- Answer the general questions about your business (or select Edit at the work summary screen).
- At the Let’s get income for… screen, select Other self-employed Income.
- Or, if the jump to feature does not work:
- On the TurboTax left menu, select Federal.
- On the top select Income & Expenses.
- Scroll down to Self-employment income and expenses.
- At the Let’s get income for… screen, select Other self-employed Income.
- Continue with the onscreen interview until complete.
