Retirement tax questions
Everyone files a Form 1040. There has not been a "short form" since tax year 2017.
A 1040 is the federal tax return form you prepare here to send to the IRS. If you start entering data in this software you are preparing a Form 1040. Please look at it so you will know what you are sending to the IRS:

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
You cannot file your state yet, since many state forms are not yet ready. And.....the state cannot accept your e-file until your federal Form 1040 has been accepted by the IRS. The IRS will not begin to accept returns until January 29.
