Retirement tax questions
What tax year are you working on? W-2's have not been sent for 2020--are you working on your 2019 return?
Careful. Check to see if you put all of the W-2 earnings from both spouses under only one of your names. That is the most common reason for this user error. When you enter your income you have to make sure you pay attention on the screens for W-2's and enter each spouse's income under the right name. If you put it all under one name it results in a bigger refund which the IRS will send you a nasty letter about in about a year. They will want that money back with interest.
Look at the box 4's of your W-2's and see how much it all adds up to. If ONE person had more than
$8239.80 for 2019 it would be excess Social Security withheld.
