Deductions & credits
When you earn money from driving for Lyft or Uber, the IRS considers you self-employed. Most people can import their income from Lyft or Uber.
Follow these steps to import your Uber income into TurboTax:
Navigate to the self-employment screen:
TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to self-employment income under Wages & Income.
TurboTax Desktop:
- Go to Federal Taxes.
- Go to Wages & Income.
- Search for self-employment income.
When asked the type of self-employment work you do, enter Uber or rideshare driving. Answer a few questions about your driving work. If importing from your Uber account is available, you’ll be offered the option.
As an Uber, Lyft, or other self-employed driver, you can deduct work-related expenses.
To enter expenses from your Uber Tax Summary, click here.
If you'd prefer to enter your income manually, we've got instructions on how to do that.
