State tax filing

It could be related.  The error code you are receiving occurs when a return has already been filed using the same Social Security number of the taxpayer (or spouse, if applicable).  Please see this link for more details on the e-file error code.  You can also check the status of your account directly with the Franchise Tax Board using the MyFTB account option to ensure another return was not filed under your Social Security number.

If you have not yet e-filed your 2025 state return yet but your federal return was successfully e-filed, I recommend following the instructions in the program to fix the error and then try to re-file your California return again. If your federal return was successfully e-filed, then it may be generating the error based upon an incorrect prior year state adjusted gross income amount.  When you get to the file portion of the program, be sure to confirm the amounts for your 2024 California Adjusted Gross Income matches the amounts on your 2024 California return as you originally filed it (Line 17 on the 2024 Form 540) . Don't use the numbers from your 2024 amended state return as it most likely has not been processed yet.

If you are still having issues, you may need to mail your state return in by following these instructions.
