After you file

You do not mention how long ago you mailed the 2021 return.   It can take several months for the IRS to process a mailed return.   Until a human opens your envelope and enters your information into the system manually, nothing will show up on the refund site.

 

No, you cannot e-file it.  E-filing has been closed for 2021 returns since mid-October of 2022.   If you mailed the return more than a few months ago and are assuming it is lost or that they did not receive it, then the only way to file it again is by mail.  Use a mailing service like certified mail so you will have tracking and know it was received.

 

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. 

 

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

 

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2022 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
