After you file
".....took the money out but never released my return which was a lot more than what I owed ...."
Sorry, but that makes no sense. You cannot owe tax due to the IRS and get a refund for the same federal tax return. If you are getting a refund it is shown on line 35a of your Form 1040. If you owe tax due it will be on line 37 of that Form 1040. There cannot be amounts on both lines. So....which line had an amount?

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
And....you cannot pay state tax due from a federal refund, nor can you pay federal tax due from a state refund. Those are completely separate from each other.
The other point....your TurboTax account will always show your return as "Ready to Mail" if you chose to file by mail instead of by e-filing. TurboTax does not mail the tax return to the IRS for you, and has no way to know if you printed the return, put it in an envelope and took it to a mailbox. Only you would know if you mailed your tax return. Your only proof that you paid your tax due will be your own bank or credit card records; TurboTax never knows if you paid, or if you received a refund.
