After you file
Did your direct deposit go to a closed or incorrect account? Or to an account that has someone else's name--not your name? When that happens the bank refuses the deposit and sends it back to the IRS. Then the IRS issues and mails a check to the address on your tax return. Or if you were having your fees deducted from your federal refund, the deposit goes back to the third party bank that handles refund processing, and that bank issues and mails a check to you. The check is sent in a plain envelope by first class mail, so you need to open ALL mail --do not assume it is junk mail and toss it without opening the envelope.
Here is what the IRS says about entering incorrect banking information
Your tax refund was not sent to TurboTax. TurboTax does not handle your refund at all.
Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.
You can contact them SBTPG, toll-free, at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website www.sbtpg.com
