After you file
Once you are accepted, the IRS issues most refunds from e-filed returns in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review. For example, the IRS is taking more than 21 days (and up to 90 to 120 days) to issue refunds for tax returns with the Recovery Rebate Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit.
To track your refund, you can use the IRS Where’s My Refund? tool (fastest option) or you can download the IRS2Go app to check your refund status.
Here is the general timeline of e-filed returns:
Transmission > Acceptance > Processing > Approval > Refund.
