The amount that SteamTrain cited is correct for 2021----The maximum amount for one of the spouses on a joint return is $8853. If one of the spouses had more than one employer, and more than that $8853 was withheld for just one of you, there would be a reason to amend and seek a refund. But it does not ever go by the amounts of both spouses' combined box 4 amounts.
