We cannot see what the IRS is doing---but sometimes people confuse the term "tax due" and "refund" and think "Tax due" means you are getting money back.  Tax due means you owe and have to pay.  We have seen people enter banking information to receive that "refund" when they are really entering information so that the IRS can take a direct debit out of their account for the amount owed.

 

Look at your Form 1040.  A refund is shown on line 20.  Tax owed is on line 23.
