After you file

What does it mean when your tax return is still being processed?
It simply means the IRS has your tax return and it has passed the initial computer check.  Your tax return is now either in line to be processed for accuracy or is now being checked for accuracy.  As soon as the IRS determines there are no errors, the IRS will authorize payment and give an approximate refund date.

Use the IRS Where's My Refund site for the latest word on your federal tax refund, and your state government's refund lookup service for the latest on your state refund.

Due to the PATH Act, some Federal refunds will be delayed. If you claimed the Earned Income Credit (EIC) or Additional Child Tax Credit, then you can expect to hear something around the end of February. Here is the general timeline of e-filed returns:

Transmission > Acceptance > Processing > Approval > Refund.
