Without much info to go on, we have to make some assumptions about what you are doing.
If you are referring to the 6-digit code for email verification during efiling, it cannot be sent by text to a phone. It is an email verification code.
The FAQ below has some tips, which also includes info on how you can change the email address in your Account Settings, if you wish to use another email address. But I suspect your problem is actually the following:
You said the previous one "timed out."
When you go to your email to get the code, you must leave the first screen open that asks for the code. You have to use a second tab or a second window to check your email. If you close that first screen, the code will always be seen as expired or invalid. Another option is to leave the first window open and use a second browser to check the email. Or one can use a phone to check the email while leaving the original screen open on their computer.
