@xpgong Why you needed to activate any prior year program for the 2021 software is not something required by TurboTax.
You only need the 2021 license code to install the 2021 software. You do not even need the 2020 tax data file to start a New Tax Return. If you want to transfer the prior year tax data to the 2021 return then you would need the 2020 tax data file available.
I have TurboTax desktop software installed on my Windows 10 PC for tax years 2021 thru 2012 and Never needed to have them available to install or use the current tax year software.
The tax code changes Every tax year so TurboTax has to create new tax preparation software each tax year. The prior year tax data file cannot be opened in the current year program, just for that reason.
