Why do you think you have to pay before you see how much your refund will be? You are mistaken about that. You can see your refund before you go through the FILE section and decide how to receive your refund and whether you want to pay upfront using a credit card----or pay with your federal refund and have the extra refund processing fee deducted from your refund. If you choose refund processing it will cost you an extra fee of $39.99 ($44.99 in CA) but you are not forced to do that. You can pay upfront using a credit/debit card to avoid the extra fee.
To see your refund----look at your Form 1040---a refund is shown on line 20; tax due is on line 23 if you

We cannot tell you where to look on your state forms since each state is different, but you can look at your TurboTax summary, the "refund monitor" and your Tax Home.
What does the TurboTax summary show you? What does it say in Tax Home?
What are your fees? Are you having them deducted from your federal refund? If so, then do some math.
