@stephenrkg There has never been a free state e-file filing for a state tax return using the desktop editions. The current charge is $25 for each state tax return e-filed. This charge can be avoided by printing and mailing the state return.
The state e-file fees has been included in the TurboTax desktop editions for at least the last 25 years.
The $40 you were charged is because you selected to have the TurboTax fees paid from your federal tax refund. You were supposed to use your own credit card so that you would not be charged the $40 fee. The fee was clearly shown on the page where you were asked to make a payment for the state e-file fee.
If you have not yet filed the 2024 tax return click on File and go back through the section until you land on the payment screen and select Pay with Credit Card.
