In order for you to claim your parents as dependents---they cannot have more than $4700 of income per person--not including Social Security. If they have more than $4700 of income----and you mentioned retirement income from RMD's and interest-----you cannot claim them as dependents. So you need to be clear on how much income each of them has. Any income that is not from Social Security "counts."

And....if you do not have a qualifying dependent you cannot file as Head of Household.

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.
