@larryburmeier The last time anyone posted to this thread was in 2022.   You have not mentioned what income you entered.   If you have a 1099NEC for work done as an independent contractor, that is why you are being prompted to prepare a Schedule C.   Even if you think you do not have a "business" if you worked as independent contractor, the IRS considers you to be self-employed and you are supposed to pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare, and prepare a Schedule C for your expenses.
