Get your taxes done using TurboTax
One thing you did not mention is the age of your children. You cannot get the CTC for a child older than 16 at the end of 2022. How old were they at the end of 2022? A dependent over 16 gets the $500 credit for other dependents instead of the child tax credit.
And...did you have a child who was born in 2022? If so, make sure you claimed that child correctly:
Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment. If your child was born in 2022 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
Another question... what is on line 19 of your Form 1040? There would be $2000 per eligible child on that line. The additional child tax credit is what you get after the child tax credit on line 19 has been used to reduce your tax owed to zero, up to the maximum of $1500 ACTC per child.
