Roth IRA contribution

Hello,

I made a Roth contribution to my Roth IRA in 2024 for the 2024 year. When I started working on my taxes earlier this year, turbo tax indicated that I was not eligible to make the contribution. I requested the funds to be withdrawn from my Roth and returned to me, which did happen. How do I indicate that this occurred in the Roth portion of my tax filing?

To report the withdrawal of an ineligible Roth IRA contribution in TurboTax for 2024:

  1. Go to the IRA contributions section.
  2. Indicate you made a Roth IRA contribution for 2024.
  3. When asked if this is a repayment of a retirement distribution, answer "NO"
  4. Report as withdrawn by the due date.
  5. Enter the amount withdrawn (the excess contribution plus any earnings).
  6. TurboTax will guide you through reporting the distribution to avoid penalties.

This ensures the excess contribution and its withdrawal are properly reported on your tax return.
