RMD distribution penalty

Due to an incorrect entry or software glitch the incorrect RMD distribution was entered.  This resulted in a penalty which I was forced to pay.  I have written to the I.R.S but have not received a reply.

If you have not heard back from your written letter to the IRS, you can take the following steps (in order of escalation):

1. Continue to wait if it has been less than 12 weeks

2. Call 1-800-829-1040

3. Make an in-person appointment 844-545-5640

4. Contact the Tax Payer Advocate
