Where do I enter Form 3922?

Your employer will send you Form 3922, Transfer of Stock Acquired Through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan Under Section 423(c), if you purchased ESPP stock during the tax year.

If you didn't sell any ESPP stock, don't enter anything from your 3922. Simply keep it with your tax or investment paperwork, in case you need to correct the cost basis when you later sell the shares.

Once you sell the shares, the brokerage firm that handles your ESPP should send you Form 1099-B, which reports the sale. If the cost basis in box 1e is wrong, here's where you can use your 3922:

  1. In TurboTax, search for 1099-b and select the Jump to link.
  2. On the screen where you enter the 1099-B sales information (description, date acquired and sold, etc.) enter the incorrect cost basis from box 1e of the 1099-B.
  3. Near the bottom of the same screen, select Guide me step-by-step.
  4. Select the first option on the next two screens which indicate that this was an ESPP sale.
  5. Review and update any info on the Tell us about your ESPP Sale screen and select Continue.
  6. Select Walk me through adding more info on the OK, we just need a few more details screen.
  7. On the screen that asks if you received a 3922, answer Yes. The next screen will then prompt you to enter info from boxes 1-6 from your 3922.
