I started last year with a secured capital one by checking on prequalify and when it said I have prequalified I applied with a direct app and was approved with $99 deposit for $200 after five months it went to $500 within a month of getting approved for capital one I applied for open sky realizing $200 could be spent in a day lol I applied for open sky it’s no credit check but they report to all agencies and I put $500 down and that’s been my limit.. I’ve been considering closing it bcus it never graduates but I have to pay off $50 balance first.. I’ve read to not close any old accounts.. I hope that helps

Secured cards are great for beginners. However, if you get a card preapproval offer by mail for an unsecured card, take it if the terms and intro offer is reasonable. Use the first card to your advantage. Don’t rack up debt. Use it wisely. Good luck.
