In some cases, books and course-related materials can be deducted, even if you paid for them with a loan or grant (or any other method). But there are certain rules and guidelines that apply. We'll ask you questions to determine if your books and materials can be deducted as you go through the Education section in TurboTax (under Deductions & Credits).

Thank you, the reason I asked is because it seems my Pell Grant is being included as taxable income. I say this because they have me as owing the IRS after entering my 1098-T information.
