From the Student Information Worksheet, Part V, line 9 "Taxable part" is $8,250, but Schedule 1, line 8r "Scholarship and fellowship grants not reported on Form W-2" is blank? Where does the taxable part of Education Assistance populate on the 1040?
Q. Where does the taxable part of Education Assistance populate on the 1040?
A. Line 8 of form 1040. But, as you appear to already know, to get there, it must first appear on line 8r of Schedule 1. It gets to line 8r from line 9 of part V of the Student info work sheet.
I'm using windows desktop (download) Deluxe and it's working correctly. You may have to delete the student and 1098-T and re-enter.
Or tell us more about your situation. Why does the student have taxable scholarship. You may have to use a workaround.
The student has $18,550 in scholarships. I'm using Home & Business--but it's 2023. I didn't realize I would have to check TurboTax moving the amount on line 9 to Schedule 1, line 8r and then to line 8 on the 1040.
Q. I didn't realize I would have to check TurboTax moving the amount on line 9 (student info worksheet) to Schedule 1, line 8r and then to line 8 on the 1040?
A. No, that should all happen automatically. I tested it on my 2023 program, and it works.
I don't have an explanation why an amount on line 9 (student info worksheet) isn't automatically going to line 8r of schedule 1.
