Why do Tuition and Fees show up on line 34 of Form 1040 which reads Reserved for Future Use?

For the 2016 Form 1040, Line 34 read "Tuition and Fees. Attach Form 8917" but for 2017 Form 1040 Line 34 reads "Reserved for Future Use."  Although tuition expenses were properly reported on Line 34 last for 2016, should they be showing up on Line 34 for 2017 or somewhere else?

At the beginning of the tax season, Congress had declined to renew several tax breaks - one of these was the Tuition and Fees Deduction.  Thus, the IRS removed Line 34 and replaced it with "Reserved for Future Use."

Now, recently, Congress decided to renew many of these tax breaks in the BiPartisan Budget Bill.  The IRS just revised these forms and they should be ready to file in TurboTax as of today (line 34 should now read Tuition and Fees again).  However, since they are very recent updates (yesterday), you will want to make sure your program is up to date and you should run program updates from you Menu (it shows you are using the desktop software version)
