The income limits will vary depending on which education credit you are inquiring about. You'll find those here below:

  1. To qualify for the American Opportunity Credit,, your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) cannot exceed $90,000 for Single or Head of Household filers ($180,000 if Married Filing Jointly).
  2. For the Lifetime Learning Credit, your 2016 MAGI, cannot exceed $65,000 for Single or Head of Household filers ($131,000 if Married Filing Jointly).
  3. To qualify for the Tuition and Fees Deduction, your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) cannot exceed $80,000 for Single or Head of Household filers ($160,000 if Married Filing Jointly).

You can also check to make sure you meet all other requirements for each Education Tax Credit offered. You can use these links for the other qualifiers you must meet.

If you are not eligible, you may still be able to qualify for tuition and fees deduction here https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901487
