What if I have a document in lieu of a 1098-E, can I still enter the interest I've paid in 2017? It is below $600

It is not uncommon for lenders to send a letter in lieu of the actual 1098 form. Just enter the data "AS IF" you received the actual form. Everything you need is in the letter. If it's not, then contact the lender.
