The amount in Box 2 of my 1098-T is not equal to the amount I paid in tuition

I got a 1098-T form from my college and I know I paid more than is listed in Box 2 for tuition. Is there an explanation for that or do I need to take it up with the school?

Box 2 is for tuition amounts billed for tuition and related expenses. If you had expenses other than what was billed, continue in the education section to enter those amounts for books, supplies or equipment.

Otherwise, if you believe the school incorrectly reported a lower amount, then contact the school for a corrected form.
