Take tuition credit instead of AOC

I am submitting my daughters 1098-T for class she is taking while in high school and would like to take the tuition credit instead of the American Opportunity Credit as it will be more beneficial to us to wait, can I opt out of the AOC and use the Tuition Credit instead?

Yes, you may opt out of the American Opportunity Credit.

To override the TurboTax Education Optimizer selection:

  • Type letme (one word, no space) in the search bar and click search.
  • Click on your Jump to letme
  • This will take you to the Education Credits and Deduction screen, where you can switch to a different education credit or deduction, assuming you meet the qualifications.
