Should I adjust my 1098-T?

My school billed my spring 2016 semester in 2015, so my 1098-T is showing 0 for the amount billed for qualified tuition and related expenses, however the scholarship amount is still present on the 2016 1098-T. Should I adjust the amounts billed?

No,

don't misreport the 1098-T

HOWEVER; the 1098-T only tells part of the story.

Use your student school account records to verify what was paid in 2016.

Enter the 1098-t as reported by the school, but under Box 2 on the 1098-T screen you can click on "What if this is not what I paid" and enter what was received by the school.

Also, you can leave a box blank, but do not put any zeros in any box. The software does not accept that.

Make sure you keep a copy of your payments with your file.
