My student loans were in default. Ive made 8 payments through a rehabilitation program but the hotline says I'm clear? Am I going to get my refund?

Probably.  In the end, the IRS will make the final call.  However, if the hotline says no one has an offset claim on your refund, there's no reason to believe that you won't receive it. Having said that, we all do well to get the check (or see it deposited in the account) before getting too excited.

Nevertheless, this is one reason I personally advise clients with situations like this to contact the student loan agency.  If you set up an acceptable payment plan with them, they are more likely to release the offset claim in good faith.  The obvious advice:  keep your payments current, and you won't face this again.

Hi there, did you ever get your tax refund? I am in a similar situation and a little worried. I know it's a year later, but hoping you got it!
