Last year my refund was offset. So they took all our money but that put me in repayment and i applied for a repayment program and they put me in forbearance for a few months. I called the offset hotline and i have no debt. But is there a chance my refund can still be taken ??? Thanks in advance
Hello ruthgomez0219,
If your students loans are in a forbearance status and are not delinquent or currently due with a past due amount owed, you are considered in good standing and the IRS should not take your refund. Please refer to the IRS link below:

Does this go for loans on deferment due to financial hardship?
You should be fine if you have an arrangement for deferment or forbearance.
A deferment is considered a loan in "good standing", the loan payment has just been deferred for a certain period of time. A loan in a forbearance status is also a loan that is considered in a "good standing ". I hope this helps!
Ive been trying to find an institution to help me get in a payment plan. I last time i spoke with the department of education ive made them aware that i am permanently disabled. I still get calls from different programs offering to help me get this going. But skeptical. I paid a program 400 dollars to get a payment plan going and i have not heard from them since. That was about a year ago. So i don't know whats going on with them now. I filed bankruptcy in 2016, but filed my taxes for 2015 before i filed bankruptcy. I received all of my refund. Now, a nervous wreck about my return for this year, the 2016 year, i filed 1/23/17. It was accepted but im so nervous that those loans are going to come back and haunt me and take my refund. I gathered the courage to call the offset hotline and when prompted, i entered my ss number. A very fast search was done and the message said i have no debt for the ss number provided. Can i breathe a sigh of relief?
Sorry for the long thread. Just nervous.
Thanks!
