My fiancé and I are planning to file taxes separately due to my student loans (IBR). Is the standard deduction $12,000 EACH or COMBINED for MFS?

If you are not married, you can't file as if you are. Until you are married, you are Single and your standard deduction is $12,000 each. Married Filing Separately is also $12,000 each.

Thank you! Yes, I should have clarified that this will be for AFTER we are married next year! So we can each claim our $12000 deduction
