It is stating that I didn't enter in any education expenses and I did. I entered in my child's 1098T and there is a clear deficit. Why am I not getting the tax break?

Income must be below $90,000 or $180,000 if Married Filing Jointly. Look for  Form 8863 in your return and see if the tuition is showing and why the credit is limited. You may need to review your entries.

To print or view  your forms:

  • In desktop, switch to Forms Mode.
  • For online:
    1. On the left side, select  Tax Tools
    2. Select Print center
    3. Select Print, save or preview this year's return
    4. If you have not paid, select pay now.

What does "there is a clear deficit" mean?  What are the amount in boxes 1 & 5 of the 1098-T? Did you enter any additional expenses for "books and materials", including a computer?
