Is assistive technology (for learning disabilities) tax deductible for college student

I purchased about $200 of assistive technology to help my son in college.  Is that a tax deductible expense? I was unsure since it is not a book or tuition.

It would not qualify for college credits.  It may qualify as a medical expense deduction if he is your dependent.

He is my dependent.  For it to qualify as a medical expense, do I need a letter from a doctor or anything like that? I don't have one, but am wondering if I can just deduct it as medical.

Just deduct it as medical if you feel it qualifies.  If the IRS asks, you can provide support later.
