If i received a 1098T in 2016 for classes beginning in 2017 first quarter, but did not file taxes in 2016 can i add the 1098T to my 2017 taxes?

If the 1098T has a 2016 date on it then it would need to be filed with your 2016 return. In order for the 1098T to be filed with your 2017 return it would need to have a 2017 date on it.

Thank you. Another questions. If i file now this 2016 1098-T i have a 1K american opportunity reimbursable credit. Will the late filing penalties eat this refund up? In other words, is it worth filing?

That is something you will only know after filing, best to file it though.
